Royal Crest was reimagined with one clear objective: to elevate the backyard to reflect the same level of refinement and intentional design as the newly renovated interior. While the home had undergone a beautiful transformation inside, the outdoor space felt dated and disconnected. Our goal was to modernize the backyard, improve everyday functionality for the family, and transform the pool and entertaining areas into true focal points rather than background elements.

The clients wanted a space that felt updated, elevated, and highly usable. They envisioned a spa that read as a design feature, better outdoor cooking capabilities, and a cleaner, more modern aesthetic that would stand the test of time.
The existing property had strong bones but needed a thoughtful facelift. The original pool was approximately 10 feet deep, which limited casual use and entertaining. It lacked shallow lounging areas, and the cream-and-white finishes had become dingy over time. The fire pit, retaining walls, and kitchen were functional but visually dated and undersized for the way the family wanted to gather.
One of the most dramatic transformations was the pool itself. We raised the floor to a 5’6″ depth, converting it into a more practical “play pool” designed for entertaining and family enjoyment. A new tanning ledge was added to encourage lounging and accommodate younger swimmers. The true showpiece is the infinity-edge spa. Rather than attaching a standard spa, we elevated it architecturally, so it commands attention. Wrapped in a rich blue tile that contrasts with the surrounding materials, it has a jewel-like presence, both sculptural and functional.
We also reimagined the existing firepit. Instead of removing it, we veneered it in a sleek black tile, giving it new life and tying it visually to the updated retaining walls and kitchen bar. The outdoor kitchen was expanded to include a Green Egg and low-boil setup, significantly increasing the family’s entertaining capabilities. A decorative tile backsplash was introduced to add personality and depth.

Throughout the space, heavy cream tones were replaced with layered blacks and richer contrasts. The result is sharper, more intentional, and fully aligned with the home’s interior renovation—a backyard that finally feels as elevated as the home it surrounds.
Go-To Tips for a Smoother Renovation Process
A successful renovation is as much about process as it is about design. To keep stress levels down and momentum strong, we always recommend:
• Maintain clear, consistent communication with your project team.
• Establish realistic timelines and expectations from the beginning.
• Plan for temporary solutions to maintain comfort during construction.
• Trust your team to handle the details so you can stay focused on the bigger picture.
• Stay flexible and open to adjustments as the project evolves.
When expectations are aligned, and communication stays strong, the experience becomes far more manageable, and the result is well worth it!
