Surrey Oaks

Located in Preston Hollow, the Surrey Oaks project showcases how thoughtful design, precise engineering, and refined craftsmanship can shape an exceptional outdoor environment. Designed by The Garden Design Studio, built by Milan Custom Build, and envisioned by SmithArc, the project highlights AquaTerra Outdoors’ ability to construct a complex, high-elevation space that complements the home’s modern architecture.

With significant elevation changes—rare for Dallas—the design embraces the natural topography. The elevated entry creates a dramatic approach, while the basement-level glass atrium brings light into the home and connects it to the landscape. Massive stone blocks and a flowing creek nod to the site’s original cliffside terrain.

At the center is a 54-by-17-foot perimeter overflow pool, the defining feature mirroring the home’s architectural lines. Water spills over all edges, creating a reflective surface enhanced by a dark finish. Beneath it, grade beams, void boxes, and bedrock-set piers ensure long-term stability. Retaining walls, supported by deep footers and piers, reinforce the slope while adding structure and depth.

The result is a dynamic, modern retreat—an elevated outdoor living space that blends engineering precision with thoughtful, sophisticated design.
