Recognition at the 2018 NALP Awards of Excellence
We’re happy to share our latest award winning projects with you. Our Modern Industrial Courtyard project received recognition at the 2018 NALP Awards of Excellence.
The courtyard was designed to extend the dining area into the outdoors beyond the dining room’s large glass doors. The glass doors open to the courtyard for al fresco dining and entertaining.
We created the space to feel interactive and inviting and encourage use of the space by family and guests. It needed to reflect the modern aesthetic of the home and provide some privacy without blocking neighborhood views.
We addressed the privacy issues by building a raised wall on the end of the fountain and a steel planter with horsetail reed on the other end of the space. By book-ending the space with taller objects, we gave the feeling of a walled enclosure without actually building walls. The middle of the space, looking out over the fountain, was left open and low to act as a “window” to the front yard.
With clean lines and simple materials, the execution of angles and joining materials had to be exact. The equipment for the fountain is tucked away almost 100ft away to keep the space quiet. The water feature was designed with a weir wall and collection basin to keep perfect water elevation at all times. This is how we were able to make the Ipe wood seat over the water feature appear as if it’s “floating” above the water.
We’re excited this project was one of two award-winning AquaTerra projects to receive a 2018 NALP Award of Excellence! You can see the entire project in the NALP winners gallery, here.
